20% off your Djembe Repair!

We do all djembe repairs, whether or not the drum has come from DrumSkulls. We use all of the same materials for repairs as we do on drums that we sell. You can feel confident that after we repair your drum, it will look, sound and feel like it came from our shop originally.

DSD DJEMBE REPAIR:

A "DSD" djembe is one that we have either built or put a skin on at one time in the past. We will re-head your djembe with a new skin and also oil the shell and fix any small cracks. In the end, the drum will be as good as new again!

NON-DSD DJEMBE REPAIR:

A "Non-DSD" djembe is one that we have never put a skin on before. If this is the first time that we will be putting a skin on your djembe, we will do a complete overhaul which includes new rings, new rope, new skin, leveling the drum, resurfacing the bearing edge, fixing any small cracks and oiling the shell multiple times. In the end, the drum will be brand new! You get to choose your new rope color!

Medium Size Head Covers will fit 13" to 14" Djembes. They are constructed of cordura with hard chip board inserts. Recommended to be used in conjunction with a carrying case, but also able to stand alone to protect your drum head at home or during transport.

These are heavy-duty djembe cases that are custom designed by DrumSkull Drums. It is our Limited Edition design, which adds extra back support and cushioning for easy comfortable carrying. Due to its solid construction, this is the ideal case for the person that frequently transports or travels with their drum. In addition to this, we have added an extra layer of protection on the top. It is the best way to protect the skin and wood from damage due to inconsistent weather and changing temperature. This is not your basic dust cover. It comes equipped with double thick padding, padded back pack straps, a handle and a roomy side pocket. It has a three-zipper, easy in/out system. In addition to this, the bag will not fold while you put your drum into it. It is designed to be stiff so that it stands upright and keeps it shape. We believe this to be the best djembe case available, and therefore the best way to protect your instrument.

New Premier Goat Skins for your Djembe!

We have more Premier Goat Skins available online for you to choose from. These are Senegalese skins of high quality. They have been trimmed to stubble and cut out into rounds for you so that you don't have to do all the dirty work yourself. These skins are available in different thicknesses for your personal preference and djembe needs. 


One advantage of these pre-trimmed rounds is you will be able to detect pock marks or holes in the skin simply by holding it up to the light. Since we have already done that and only sell skins which have passed our inspections, these rounds are a sure bet. However, if you find something we missed, these rounds can be returned for full warranty up until they have been soaked and stretched. At that point, they are not covered by our standard warranty.

We have a new product in our shop! New handles that we made in-house at Drumskull Drums. These removable handles can be attached to your drum and used to lift and carry your djembes and your dununs as well. You can also attach your djembe strap to the handle for standing performances. We have made them with our 4mm rope and they come in a variety of colors, featuring two colors per handle (each color being dominant on opposite sides of the handle). Here are a few examples below. Guinea Krins

           

Origin: Guinea
Wood: Haré (Khadi)
Size: 20 3/4" x 5"

This is a professional krin that was hand-carved in Guinea, West Africa. It has been carved from the premier hardwood known as haré (khadi). Haré wood is best known as being the preferred wood for bala (balafon). Due to its density, haré is extremely resonant. As a result, krin have a warm, natural sound similar to that produced by a clave or other wood blocks.

Krins are also called log drums or slit drums. They are used in ceremonies and as a wireless communication tool between villages, informing and updating the villagers with the latest news. They can be found not only in West Africa, but also in differnet parts of the world, like Polynesia and Asia, where different tribes and ethnicities use them as part of their culture and traditions. The West African krin is made from several types of wood, mainly the balaphone wood or haré is usually the best since it is believed that this type of wood resonates more.  Rope Wrapped Djembes By Drumskull Drums

At Drumskulls, we offer people the option to get rope wraps in lots of different colors. Rope wraps change the aesthetic of the drum, but they also change the tuning maintenance of your drum. Obviously, when your drum is wrapped you cant access the tuning ropes as easily, so putting diamonds in it or getting it pulled is a more laborious task. We make sure to tune our drums to our customer’s specifications and our drums do hold their tuning well, but its something to consider whenever choosing to add it to your drum. We’ve even done some rope wraps on sets of dununs, check them out! 

West African Rhythms

Book by Age Delbanco

 Age Delbanco’s book entitled West African Rhythms has 100 rhythms notated inside of it. Many of them have numerous variations for each instrument, and solo phrases for Djembe. Over seventeen years of studying, Delbanco collected rhythms from teachers in Africa and the US, originally writing them down for his own memory. He began compiling an impressive list of rhythms from some of the best African teachers there are. Eventually he decided to publish a book, and then West African Rhythms was born.

            This book is an invaluable resource to the learning drummer. You don’t need to be able to read music to play the rhythms; Delbanco uses a notation format to translate the rhythms to the reader with relative ease. There is no substitute to practicing with a teacher who is well versed in the music and the traditions, but books like these are great memory banks for the studying drummer. This book has a nice variety of rhythms in it; many of the rhythms that are popular in dance classes are in this book for those that want to become more solid in those, but there are also some amazing rhythms that you don’t hear so much in classes but they’re are extremely fun to play and help develop your skills as a drummer.
